Zingerman’s Deli – 422 Detroit St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104

As a lot of you know, I’m always on the hunt for a good Reuben. There is nothing that hits the spot the same way. Would you think of me any differently knowing that my trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan was inspired by a tweet by Barack Obama himself recommending Zingermans Reuben?

So I thought, why not give it a try and booked a trip to try a sandwich the president himself recommended.

Zingerman’s Deli is located in Ann Arbor Michigan. Established in 1982, Zingerman’s has been a staple to the Ann Arbor community as a place to get good and filling food without breaking the bank. The deli isn’t the only place Zingerman’s operates. They have a bakehouse, a roadhouse, a creamery, and an online store with a decent amount of delicious food and gifts that can be shipped directly to your home.

I landed in DTW(Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport) at 1:00 pm and got my car rental and headed straight to Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor.

As mentioned before, it was my first time in Ann Arbor and I was blown away by how beautiful of a town it is. You could feel that the city is alive and doing well. Zingerman’s stood out with their bright neon lights in the window and their colorful window art. The outside of the store gave off a mix of a mom-and-pop deli shop mixed with a Trader Joe’s.

The Reuben

When we walked inside we were greeted by the friendly staff and offered samples from their bakery. This is when we got the Trader Joe’s vibes. Zingerman’s is not only a deli but a whole store that is full of very unique and carefully sourced products that you wouldn’t be able to find in an average store.

The restaurant is located at the end of the store and everything is automated. You place and pay for your order on tablets in the lobby and wait to receive a text message saying your order is ready to be picked up. Not something I expected to find in a deli, but it was pretty awesome.

We picked up our order and headed upstairs where they have outdoor and indoor seating. It is late in the Fall, we decided to sit inside and enjoy our Reuben.

The Reuben was out of this world. The bread was fresh and made in-house. The sauerkraut tasted fresh and homemade. It’s not a sandwich that was just thrown together and served. It tasted like it took a lot of trial and error to make sure they got it right and they did. 10/10 would recommend it.

Just trying to find that balance between work and personal life. See it all and do it all without breaking the bank and sharing everything I learn so people don't have to make the same mistakes.
